Established in November 2022, the open laboratory of the Institute of Intelligent and Interactive Technologies – University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City has supported hundreds of students to complete scientific research projects.
At 8 pm, the OpenLab at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City is still lit. More than 10 students are still engrossed in their research. Some are programming, some are assembling circuits, and some are cutting and pasting. The students are working and chatting happily with each other.
Looking towards the two first-year students sitting at the back of the room, Associate Professor – Dr. Nguyen Truong Thinh, Institute of Intelligent and Interactive Technologies, said that in a few days, these two students will take their water puppet robot to Hanoi to perform on national television.
According to Dr. Thinh, OpenLab was established to serve the scientific research of students at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City. The laboratory is open 24/24, 7 days a week. Students do not need to register for a room in advance, they can freely conduct research, with no limit on the topic or the number of participants.
The university provides modern machinery and equipment for research in technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, there is a workshop in District 8 to serve large-scale research projects of students.
Not only becoming the “home” of students of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, some international students also choose this open laboratory as a place to research and carry out their internship projects.
“The laboratory regularly welcomes international student delegations to visit. Last year, there were groups of students from Australia and the US who came to research and intern. The group implemented a project to build a bird’s nest harvesting system. The laboratory is not only “open” in terms of time but also “open” in terms of research subjects. “Opening” for students from other schools and international students to research is a way to create a diverse and professional environment, and an opportunity for students of the school to access more diverse knowledge” – PGS – Dr. Thinh said.
Student Dao Minh Duyên, majoring in robotics and artificial intelligence at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, said that she has completed 4 research projects at the open laboratory. “Although I am a first-year student, I have been enthusiastically supported by my teachers. In addition to creating material facilities, the teachers also guide and give me advice on each project to achieve the best results” – Duyên shared.
In addition, depending on the registered topic and implementation ability, the school will have appropriate research support, contributing to motivating students. After researching, students can fully take their projects to participate in competitions, “pitch” to businesses, and participate in exhibitions at large student festivals.
